Trampoline Exercise: Fun Weight Loss Activity.
Tuesday, 26 June 2007
The exercise trampoline is a fun, yet sensible way to lose weight. Like many women, I struggled to lose the extra weight I gained with my two kids. Although it looked as though I had lost all the pregnancy weight after the birth of my first child, looking back, I realize that although I weighed the same as I did before my pregnancy, my muscle to fat ratio had changed. I wish I had known about exercise trampolines before I became pregnant with my second child because that’s when I really began to put on fat.
Due to the overwhelm of raising two young boys, it took me awhile to realize that I had gained extra fat. When you’ve been pregnant with two or three little ones in a row, you become accustomed to wearing loose fitting clothes. When your children are small, you’re so committed to taking care of them, that it’s easy to neglect yourself. In order to truly take care of your children–and the mommy they love and need–you must take charge of your health.
The exercise trampoline or mini trampoline is an excellent way to do this. Before I talk about its benefits, realize that I’m not talking about one of those cheap exercise trampolines you buy at Sears or the sporting goods store for $30-$70.Those mini trampolines are poorly constructed and can damage your joints. The fabric will fray and the springs are cheap. You can actually hurt yourself jumping on one of these exercise trampolines.
Although I looked at a variety of exercise equipment before I made my choice, I chose a rebound exerciser because I realized that first and foremost, exercise must be FUN! If I didn’t love it … if it wasn’t enjoyable, I knew I’d stop doing it.Since exercise must be done consistently to be effective, this was my top priority. Second, I wanted to be able to exercise at home. The drive to the gym, the time spent there and the drive home took about two hours. In my busy life, I couldn’t set aside two hours for exercise every day–it was unrealistic and undoable, but I could manage thirty minutes. Third, the exercise equipment must not be bulky–it had to be something I could put away. The mini trampoline that I found folds up easily and even comes with a carrying case.
You may know already that bouncing on mini trampolines is called rebounder exercise. Rebounder exercise has many important benefits:
- Stimulates your metabolism
- Increases oxygen capacity
- Improves your sense of balance
- Increases oxygen circulation to tissues
- Circulates the lymph (cleans accumulated toxins from the body)
- Tones up the glandular system, especially the thyroid (Proper thyroid functioning is paramount to reducing fat)
- Strengthens the heart
- Increases energy and sense of vitality
- Firms and tones the muscles
These are just some of the benefits of rebounder exercise. The biggest benefit is that it’s fun. Bouncing on my mini trampoline makes me feel like a kid again. It lightens my spirit and relieves me temporarily of all the responsibilities of being a wife, mother, business owner and author. It gives me a sensation of delight–like how I felt as a kid when I was swinging on the swings and crested at the top, just before I soared into the downward arc. No matter what’s going on in my life, I do my rebounder exercise and my “lightness of being” returns. It brings me a sense of joy of being in my body. This is what exercise should do.
The rebounder exerciser I use is portable–it folds up flat and comes with a carrying case. It has a 5 year warranty on the mat and a lifetime warranty on the heavy grade steel frame. For those who are worried about falling, it hasan optional stabilizing bar, making it a great exercise for seniors. The mat is made of Permatron®, making it resistant to UV light and meaning that it doesn’t break apart like cheap exercise trampolines. The springs are specially made and angled, which means the exercise trampoline protects your joints. Perhaps best of all the mini trampoline is American-made by a company that specializes only in making rebounder exercisers.
If you’ve had trouble making a commitment to a regular exercise routine, try theexercise trampoline. You’ll want to do it because it’s fun–it gives you back that sense of joy of being in your body. It’s easy–you can jump on it and watch your kids or your favorite t.v. show. If you want to really get wild, you can turn up your favorite music and bounce away to it. Your kids will love it too–it’s great for developing strong little legs. Most crucial of all, by exercising regularly on your exercise trampoline, you’ll be taking care of your family by taking care of your health.
Have a great day and God bless!
